Certification Classes Requirements

Equipment that lists a Certification Requirement under "Classes" has a mandatory class component before appointments can be made. Certifications consist of completing an online pre-certification before attending a one-on-one, hands-on practice session with an experienced STEAM Central staff member:

The pre-certification can be completed online by clicking the link to the Certification Class, or by clicking the teal button on the side of the page (labeled "Tutorials" with a camera icon) to go to NicheAcademy. The online component of each class will provide text, image, and video tutorials on the basics of using the equipment, with short knowledge checks throughout. This is a pre-requisite to the hands-on practice session and can be completed from any device at any time; if you do not have a device available, you may also use a computer at any of our library branches.

If you have been certified for using any piece of equipment in the past, and have not completed a reservation in more than 6 months, please speak to a STEAM Central staff member about being re-certified.

Questions?

For questions about certification classes, equipment usage, and other makerspace information, please email the Maker Librarian or call 325-655-7321 and ask for STEAM Central staff.
